SAMPLE CASE STUDY QUESTION

Anywhere Haulage Ltd., holds a Standard National Operator’s Licence for 12 vehicles which are all owned and operates from one centre in the Western Traffic Area.

The company intends to move to a larger site in the same Area and close the existing operating centre.

It also wishes to increase the number of vehicles to 18 and replace four of the present vehicles with new acquisitions immediately.

What actions should the company take?

ANSWER

Changing to a new operating centre is a major variation to the licence. Application should be made to the Traffic Commissioner on Form GV 81 at least 9 weeks before the proposed move.

Also, an advertisement must be placed in a local newspaper within the timescale of 21 days before to 21 days after the Traffic Commissioner

receives the application.

The four vehicles may be replaced by new ones provided the Traffic Commissioner is advised within a month on Form GV 80 and the identity discs for the old vehicles are returned.

A form GV 81 should be used to seek permission to increase the number of vehicles beyond the margin to 18.
